About 14 years ago, an electric membership cooperative was looking to improve the retirement benefits for its employees. The EMC's leadership wanted its employees to have access to the same financial planning guidance a wealthy individual or executive would have. The company also wanted to improve the investment selection and have the ability to customize the choices without mandates, and then give its employees help with choosing the appropriate investment options.
The company conducted an exhaustive search that included 12 potential plan consultants and arrived at the decision that we were the ones who best met its criteria. We customized a complete employee-focused program that addressed all of the EMC's objectives for plan guidance, investment selection, and employee engagement and education.
Many employees who never had a financial advisor before now had someone to help them navigate the road to retirement, whether they were a new hire or a long-time employee ready to retire. Our initial proposal included conducting regularly scheduled employee meetings on the first Tuesday of every month. It's a commitment we have kept for more than 14 years – and counting.
